Week 1–2: Introduction to Quranic Sciences (Ulum al-Quran)
This section introduces students to the science of Quranic revelation, compilation, and preservation. Additionally, you will explore the structure of the Mushaf and Makki versus Madani revelations.
Transitioning into Quranic sciences first gives students a strong basis for further exploration. Ulum al-Quran enriches your understanding of divine revelation and its significance.

Week 3–4: Arabic Language Skills for Quranic Studies
The second module sharpens Arabic proficiency, focusing on morphology, syntax, and grammar relevant to Quranic verses. This enables accurate interpretation.
A strong Arabic foundation is essential in any Tafseer course. You’ll study key roots, linguistic patterns, and vocabulary found in common Quranic expressions.

Week 5–6: The Historical and Social Context of Revelation
In this module, you will study the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, society in 7th-century Arabia, and the context of specific verses.
Understanding the historical context helps clarify the Quran’s messages. Consequently, students will learn to connect events in Seerah with verses of revelation.

Week 7–9: Classical Tafseer Methodologies (Ibn Kathir, Tabari, Qurtubi)
This portion of the course covers the works of classical scholars who shaped tafsir traditions. You will study how they approached verse interpretation.
Their methodologies, including reliance on Hadith and linguistic precision, remain relevant today. Therefore, mastering these will enrich your analytical skills.

Week 10–12: Contemporary Tafseer Approaches (Thematic and Contextual Tafsir)
Next, students will examine modern tafsir styles focusing on thematic organization and contextual applications. These styles address current issues using Quranic insight.
In a digital age, the Quran remains timeless. Thus, contextual tafsir enables relevant reflection and broader spiritual awareness.

Week 13–14: Quranic Hermeneutics and Interpretation
This module focuses on interpretation theories and philosophical approaches to understanding the Quran. It includes discussions on literal, allegorical, and symbolic meanings.
Students will critically assess various interpretations while being grounded in classical principles. The goal is to foster deep personal connection to the text.

Week 15–16: Tafsir Application and Quranic Reflection
The final weeks involve practical tafsir exercises. Students apply acquired skills to interpret selected passages, write reflective essays, and complete oral presentations.
This hands-on approach ensures lasting understanding. After completion, students will feel confident to continue personal or academic Quranic study.
